Ceiling Fan Common Problems
Like many home appliances that are used frequently, ceiling fans can develop slight niggling problems. These can include, but are not limited to:
If you are experiencing persistent scraping noises from your ceiling fan while it is in use, our advice is to turn it off and begin an inspection. Part of the problem could be the blades coming slightly loose. Check that they are secured in there holdings and that they are adequately lubricated. If they do scrape against the bearing then spray in some WD40, or another lubricant designed for moving parts. If the problem persists then it is most likely an internal moving part that is causing the unpleasant noise to occur. Turn off the electrical supply to the ceiling fan, remove from the ceiling and dismantle - only do this if you are able to and the fan is out of warranty. Look inside the housing for signs of wearing or abrasion. If you can see a particular part that has been damaged, and you are technically able, you could find a replacement part and fix the problem. If you do opt install a new replacement fan part, take note of the pieces you remove so you don't lose anything. When finished, spray liberally with some WD40. If the ceiling fan wobbles when working and you have a working knowledge of the fan, you could take it apart and repair the damaged part. A wobbling ceiling fan is usually caused by a bladed issue. When trying to fix the wobble you should pay particular attention to the bearings and the joint between the blade and the shaft - this is where most issues arise. Tighten any screws, look for signs of wear or damage and if you can - replace the part.
