Ceiling Fan Noise

We've seen it time and time again in films, buzzing noises coming from broken ceiling fans in an out of town motel. And that's exactly what it feels like under a ceiling fan making strange noises. It's one of the most infuriating things to listen to, and so persisitent!

Dealing With Ceiling Fan Noise

If you are currently experiencing a lot of noise from your ceiling fan then there is most likely a technical fault with the unit. Are you perhaps running the ceiling fan with a broken blade, or even a missing blade? This imbalance has the potential to create a buzzing noise as it spins. The first step to getting back to silence is to check the blades. if they are damaged, repair or replace them.

Many ceiling fans for sale nowadays come with an integrated light fixture - they're attractive, functional and great value for money! But if they have been in steady use over a long period of time, the light fixture may have shaken loose from the ceiling fan. A loose light fixing may rattle against the ceiling fan, causing a repetitive noise to occur. Likewise, the light bulb could also be moving loose out of the socket and also causing a noise. To remedy the situation simply secure the light fixtures back into place.

One of the most common causes of ceiling fan noise is speed. When you are buying a new ceiling fan it is advisable to purchase one with multiple speed settings. This means that you can cover your bases in the event of noise occuring. If you suspect that too much speed is causing the noise, just turn it down!

Some ceiling fans are operated with a dimmer switch on the wall, which has been known to cause some problems with ceiling fan noise. If you believe that the dimmer switch is causing the noise, then we advise you ask a certified electrician to come and look at it for you. You may need to wire the ceiling fan directly and miss out the dimmer switch.

If you find that your ceiling fan still generates a noise, you should consider checking the interior working of the machine housing. Perhaps the bearings need lubricated? Maybe it hasn't been on for a while and just needs to be used?

Persistent Ceiling Fan Noises

Are you suffering because of persistent ceiling fan noises? In this case we would highly recommend that you take the ceiling fan back to where you bought it and seek a repair or have it replaced under warranty.
