Shaking Ceiling Fans
Anyone with a shaking ceiling fan knows just how frustrating it can be! When your ceiling fan starts to shake or wobble, you know that there is definitely something wrong with it. Fixing A Shaking Ceiling FanUsually the cause of a shaking or wobbling ceiling fan is a defective blade, or multiple defective blades. Turn the fan off, take a step ladder and climb up to the level of the ceiling fan. Now, examine each blade of the ceiling fan one at a time. Make sure that they are firmly fixed and do not move on the hoizontal or vertical planes. If all id tight then at least you know that the blades are correctly fixed. However, if the blades feel slack you must tighten them again. This should alleviate the wobble. Check each blade and ensure that the material they are made of is not damaged. Look for cracks, splits or pieces missing. If you find that your blades are in a state of disrepair you should go and get a set of new blades. If just a single blade is defective, we would still recommend getting a new set of blades to keep the ceiling fan balanced. Another problem that can cause your ceiling fan to wobble is the spacing of the blades relative to eachother. A properly working 4 blade ceiling fan will have the blades spaced evenly with a 90° angle between them. Likewise, a 2 blade ceiling fan will have a 180° angle between the blades. Check this carefully, as it is often the cause of a wobbling ceiling fan. Another way to check that the blades are in good condition is to look on at the blades at eye level. If one drops lower or sticks up higher than the rest you know where the problem lies. Fixing it is a simple matter of gently coersing the blade back to where it should be. If none of these measures work we recommend that you get in touch with the store you purchased the defective ceiling fan from. If it is still under warranty you may be able to get a replacement.
