Usage Tips

If you are using a ceiling fan for prolonged period of time you may well be interested in these helpful usage tips intended to reduce costs and increase efficiency.

Turn Off When Not In The Room

Ceiling fans work quickly, so you don't really need to have them running all day long - especially if you are not in the house or room. Keeping a ceiling fan running all day long, even a certified ENERGY STAR ceiling fan, is unnecessary. By turing the fan off while you are away you will save a significant amount on your utilities bill.

Use Directional Airflow

If you have purchased a new ceiling fan that can rotate in both directions, use it to it's full extent. In the summer use the ceiling in fan in the counter-clockwise direction so that the room cools down - saving you money by not having to use expensive air conditioners. Then, when the temperature drops during winter, rotate the fan in the clockwise direction. This will push warmer air down to ceiling level and help make the room feel warmer and more comfortable. Again, using your fan intelligently will save you money on expensive oil-fired central heating.

Get ENERGY STAR Compliant!

If you haven't already, get ENERGY STAR compliant. It will save you even more money! Read more about ENERGY STAR compliant fans here.
